Visual Culture

Visual Culture

Visual culture recognizes the predominance of visual forms of media, communication and information in the postmodern world. Our experience of culturally meaningful visual content appears in multiple forms- print images, television, film and video, computer interfaces and software design, digital multimedia, advertising, fashion, fine art, photography, architecture.

This book was done as a part of my graduate graphic design studio. The project involved creating a 100 page book of just text which culturally inspires us. The text could be anything- quotes, sayings, short story, poem, lyrics, newspaper headings, slogans.

I have a habit of collecting quotes and phrases from the different places I go to. Wether its a phrase on the back of a car, on a wall, on a menu card, restaurant door, phone cover, clothing, accessories, billboards, hoardings, I save and collect them. The title of the book is therefore, 'Everything, Anything'

The concept behind the layout of this book is thus inspired from travel- movement and continuity. Through the layouts, I have tried to create a movement and flow throughout the book with the different texts using repetition. The text on the pages creates a visual movement as you flip through to imply that they have been collected over a period of time from different places and sources.
